Nap Time: Accidentally on Purpose

Mondays are one of the toughest days of the week for me and not for the typical reasons. I'm not being all melodramatic over the weekend ending or even the week beginning. Instead, I'm all melodramatic over the fact that I work Sunday nights at my part time job (if, compared to mommyhood, I can even call it that) and that my husband has classes early Monday morning.

I can sometimes squeeze in a tiny nap in between my job and when the real work begins, but these power naps are definitely not enough for a fully functioning mommy. Luck would have it that my son is also a non-sleeper, which adds to the bliss. One Monday, in particular, was no exception. After just over fifteen hours of being awake I got home around 7:30 am and, after roughly a two hour nap, was up and at it again.

At around 4:30pm, with no nap under my belt, I was getting too tired to stay upright so I laid down in my son's play area (an enclosed play space in our living room) and watched him play. He had fun pulling my hair and poking me in the face as I laid mostly limp.

I must have fallen asleep, because a few minutes later I suddenly awoke to the sound of tearing paper!

I was a bit dazed at first, but when my vision came into focus I had the pleasure of seeing my little sir with the most adorable smile on his face holding the ripped out pages from one of his "big boy" books. He was happy as a clam and very proud of his accomplishment. Luckily he ripped out non-essential pages at the back and I was able to swap him for a more baby friendly board book.

Being a mother changes a lot of things, including the phrase "it's amazing what a little sleep can do".
