Sick Days

Being sick - it’s one of life’s little nuisances and no one is immune. Sadly, not even mothers.

A few weeks back I was pretty much flat on my back with the whole kit and caboodle, and I mean everything. It felt like I had strep, a sinus infection, a constant migraine, food poisoning and the flu all at the same time, so needless to say, I was barely able to move or keep anything down. I was having a heck of a time taking care of myself, let alone a sick little one.

After much wailing and gnashing of teeth (literally...isn't teething just wonderful?) I was finally able to get the little guy down for a nap. Exhausted and weak I laid down myself, relishing in the peace and quiet.

Mere moments passed, when suddenly :

KNOCK KOCK KNOCK went the door.

BARK BARK BARK went the dog.

WAH WAH WAH went the sick baby boy.

Already hating whoever was at the door I practically crawled over to answer it. Once I finally got there I pulled the door open to find that it was the maintenance guy from the property management company.

Maintenance guy:  “Oh… did I wake you?”

Me: “No you woke my sick baby...can I help you with something?”

Maintenance guy: “Oh… I was just wanting to let you know that I am here that’s all.”

Me: “...Okay...”

Maintenance guy: “Sorry for waking your baby…”

Me: *Silently turns around in order to not explode with anger and/or rage*.

Eventually, after some nursing and snuggles, the tears subsided and we got on with our day. Being horribly sick is hard enough when you can curl up in bed all day; unfortunately that's not an option for us moms. In fact, chances are if you're sick your child is as well, so not only do you not get a break, but it just gets harder. It's a good thing their just so darn cute! (And who can complain about all the extra sick-snuggles? :)

Do you have a favorite “I can’t believe you just woke the baby!” moment?

We'd love to hear from you!
